the list of misidentified chemical element names on wikipedia https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_misidentified_chemical_elements is extremely evocative and all of them seem like they could be plausible fictional unobtaniums; they also look like they could have been generated with a recurrent neural network ("alkalinium", "berzelium", "decipium", "ptene", "wasium")
just some Soviet space art
In software, employers should see a union as a positive sign that their employees want the company to succeed. Otherwise, employees wouldn't put in the effort to start a union, they'd just hop to the next available job.
When skilled developers are as hard to find as they've been for my entire career, employers should be happy to see developers who care enough to stay and fight.
it still baffles me that apple's "property list" format managed to misunderstand the concept of XML this badly https://mastodon.social/media/Hv53YIINDzBi7U-I5SE
(Probably) Unpopular opinion:
We don’t have a protocol problem or even an infrastructure problem when it comes to #NetNeutrality. Fundamentally, we have a people problem
The people who own, manage, or otherwise profit from the infrastructure and those who follow along because they don’t know, don’t care, or aren’t able to push back. The battle for Net Neutrality is one big Milgram experiment
An "NSA backdoor" proposed TLS extension finally turns up inthe wild: in random Canon printers that fail to work with TLS 1.3...

As the blog post points out at length, gee this spy stuff can be super mundane.
The RP site I GM on and do tech for is about to do our winter celebrations on the 30th. It's a jousting tournament and magical tournament and excuse to heckle and hang out. Also a good opportunity to pop in and say hi or get a new character in to meet people when you're starting off.
If this sounds like fun or you're looking for an RP site - get a character in and we can get it approved and ready to post with. :)
We're small at the moment but scrappy:

Corporations should never have been allowed to own the physical vectors of Internet transmission in the first place.
Stop. Dance party!
Your pre-Xmas reminder that a) Harlem Unbound exists:

And b) it is awesome.
And c) I helped write it.
Come check out the book that made me cry while I was writing my assignments for it and made me amazingly proud when I was done and the work turned in. Also the setting that made me get a few more grey hairs this year while I worked on an adventure last month. #rpgbooks #CallOfCthulhu #lovecraftWouldBeHorrified #notSorryAtAllScrewThatGuy

GOOD MORNING.
YOU KNOW WHAT TIME IT IS.

TODAY IS A NEW DAY FOR YOU TO SINK YOUR TEETH INTO. DEVOUR IT'S BODY AND TURN IT INTO POTENTIAL AND SUCCESS!
I BELIEVE IN YOU, MIGHTY HUNTER!
"Unfortunately, what’s happened is that the online world has been structured by what I view as the perverse financial incentives of the advertising model into exactly the opposite, where people are corralled into these groups that are made to be as annoyed as possible with each other." https://www.theverge.com/2017/12/8/16751596/jaron-lanier-dawn-of-the-new-everything-vr-interview
Oh, and one more thing...
Curtail your concerns with someone else trying to get one over on you or holding you down...
In the end you'll find that the energy you put toward it is what held you back.
Disregard people trying to make you something you don't want to be. If their rules are unjust, challenge them...
We all carry a burden of some sort. Don't turn you ire toward those who want to help.
At the end of the day remind yourself that you did the best you could today, and that is good enough. ~ Lori Deschene
Drink some more water. When was the last time you filled your cup?
Remember that technology is a tool. Use it to help yourself.
