I honestly think political spectrum/grid memes might've stained political discussion for my generation. People make statements like "because x is more left" but it's like, without more surrounding context that can mean absolutely everything or nothing at all. I wish people would compare policies or governments case by case more rather than using the 4 corner grid and assuming everyone else is on the same page on the placement of individual things. I've seen so many good discussions devolve into semantics arguments because of this, it's really frustrating.

@furbisms on one hand I think a lot of people are less scared of politics because of the memes, like, it's less of a touchy subject now and I find it easier to talk to people about my beliefs, but on the other it's like you say that some people have really strongly become attached to the meme... rhetoric and those people are not fun to talk to

@apt extremely real, and i thought the whole point of the meme was to make fun of how silly simplifying politics to such an extent is, but i guess some people missed that. Don't learn about politics through memes
