just a general reminder that I don't care what transphobes think or say. I don't care about transphobic imagery. I don't care if you're criticizing it. I don't want to be exposed to it.

software's gonna change the world, they said

these don't fundamentally differ from the myriad valid reasons people choose proprietary application software over the Free alternative. "i need to work in CMYK for photo editing, the GNU IMP doesn't support that, and i don't have the knowledge or energy to work around that limitation" and "i can't be bothered to deal with the subtle incompatibilities when importing/exporting MS Office formats with LibreOffice" for example.

all the grandstanding in the world about the significance of software and infrastructure You Own doesn't matter if it's not fit for purpose, and the new purpose being given to us by Discord et al is: let people who previously couldn't (non-technical musicians/artists making fan-club type guilds, for instance), easily set up a social space without knowing what a web server is, that people can easily join without knowing what a client is.

that's a big hurdle, and it's not one we can solve in software alone; we, as an internet, need to Organize.

Ugh stupid borkd webview. I use Sleep as Android for sleep management, and Pebble to drive my watch/notifications/sleep tracking, and Overdrop to plan outfits/remote start.

All were broken by the update and did not function last night or this morning.

So kinda a rough start this morning.

had a dream where i was a flight engineer on an interstellar ship.

there were passengers in cryosleep for the whole trip, technicians including me that got woken up periodically to help with high-level fixes to the ship, and a crew that spent enough time awake that there were a few third-generation crew kids by the time we got there.

the crew were genetically engineered and some of them augmented. i got the sense that the passengers never regarded them as human in the first place, but i liked them and they liked me for some reason.

it was a little weird that they had a new religion that got more complex every time i woke up, but it seemed fun (lots of cheery shrines in neon colors in rec and emptied storage spaces with a tech-Shinto vibe) and it was okay to them that i didn't get it.

once crew got past middle age, they went into cryosleep, and some of these shrines were built at the cryopods of famous ancestors.

so then we arrived at the destination. i got woken up after all the crew were up but before any of the other scheduled revivals of techs or passengers. the crew told me,

okay, here's how it is, the destination planet is a dump. there's enough consumables and short-range ships left that we've started building what we think could be a sustainable civilization in the asteroid belts instead, but we'll need the ship as a base for decades. and oh, by the way, the passengers might start waking up soon and they're gonna hate this, but we're too ethical to straight up murder them. help us?

so i'm like, okay, we better get this place locked down then. we talked food preservation and how to slow down the wake-up pipeline, and then someone took me for a trip outside, and i saw the ship had been painted with their cheery neon stripes since the last time i was awake and smiled.

and then i woke up for real. □

Things autism research could be about:

- How does autism radar work?
- Do we have an easier time communucating with other autistics because our ways of communication are similar, or because we've all had to learn to accomodate the people we're talking to?
- What can be done to prevent and treat autistic burnout?
- What even *is* autistic burnout exactly?
- What effects does masking have on your mental health?
- What autistic traits are actually traits of autism, and which ones are trauma responses?
- How is a non-traumatized autistic brain work?
- How can we better accomodate autistic people?

What autism research is about:
- How do we make the autistic people stop existing?

@dragon 🎵 Faraway Voyage of 38 Kilobytes pigu-a.bandcamp.com/track/fara (note: This is technically incorrect. The AGC has 38 K 16-bit words, not 38 Kbytes - but still my favorite track name - the wordplay on the original "Faraway Voyage of 380,000 Kilometer" is too neat to waste)

"A library is not enough," the emperor said. "Build me a library where time does not pass, so I can enjoy my books in peace."
His engineers and scientists struggled for decades. He was on his deathbed when they finished it.
"Take me there," he said, "then leave it open for all."
