you know whats fucked up?? you know whats REALLY fucked up??
in the wizard of oz, they call the lion the "cowardly lion." but they dont call the scarecrow the "brainless scarecrow," or the tin man the "heartless tin man." they dont call dorothy "homeless dorothy." whats up with that??? why single out the harmless lil scaredy-cat for public mockery??? its rude as fuck
@VOID I think it's because scarecrows aren't expected to have brains and tin men aren't expected to have hearts, but lions are expected to be brave so the lion is singled out for deviating from societal norms
just another example of toxic masculionity at work
@dukhovni the lion is just!!! doing his best!!!!!! ok!!
@dukhovni @VOID No, no! Is subversive storytelling. The lion is not cowardly, nor the scarecrow foolish, nor the tinman cruel. Baum is saying that asserting a thing to be true does not make it true, that surface appearances are not all there is.
When the three get courage/brain/heart, what they receive are outward acknowledgements of their inner natures, and this external validation changes how they perceive themselves and allows them to see themselves positively.
@VOID courage the cowardly dog was actually rather brave
