A coworker asked me "what are you going to do when chrome and things based on chrome are the only browser left?"

I'm going to stop using web browsers.

Likely controverisal take:

Languages with first-class package managers that make it really easy to use dependencies are a case where ease-of-use and usability might be actively harmful. It encourages developers to NOT audit their dependencies, and eventually leads to node_modules, which eventually leads to leftpad. Having fewer dependencies because adding depenedencies is annoying is not actually necessarily a bad thing.

In Paper Mario, if no input is made during the Peach interludes for 60 seconds, Peach will yawn and stretch (middle), before falling asleep 15 seconds later (right). Note that in this game, this behavior is exclusive to Peach; Mario will never sleep.

is there any way to like, search the local timeline for part of a toot that i remember but have zero idea who it was by?

i passionately loathe the touchscreen monoculture. ever since my Gemini PDA broke I've been stuck on a phone without a physical keyboard again, which has often made it physically too difficult (disability) for me to type at length with my loved ones.

this is a fucking *communications device* and is actively terrible at it. it jacks up the already high energy cost of talking about emotional things. i am terrified that I'm seeming more distant to people.

why did we let them fuck up our technology like this?

one reason i'm disenchanted with modern computers is how they afford no opportunity for excitement. for the most part, they are all just more efficient/powerful versions of the machines from 20 years ago, which is important and good, but not really exciting. popular vintage computers like the commodore 64 excite me because they can't just run what everything else runs. my pinebook pro feels like the closest modern equivalent of that, it may be most exciting machine to happen in my lifetime.

i'm kinda in love with my and i feel i owe @tindall a special mention for bringing the hype!

I'm liking JetBrains Mono, a new (FOSS) font from JetBrains. Check out the ligatures in the Rust screenshot! It's available under the Apache 2.0 license
