If i may chime in:
I believe it's a difference disability activists often encounter, often the "awareness" campaigns are organised by parents and researchers of disabled people, not by disabled people themselves. that can distort matters a lot, so that in this case, actually autistic peoples' voices are not represented in those campaigns, and such campaigns are even going against their human rights and interests.

@distelfliege @Jules Ah, I see, that's very understandable! I wasn't aware that the complete term "awareness" was coloured like that, even though I knew about campaigns like that. Thank you for the explanation. :)

@rixx it is the consequence of society prioritizing the voices of neurotypical parents and organisations that talk over autistic peoples' heads, they get an awful amount of reach. I have to thank #actuallyautistic people for making me aware of it!
