They're only saying that for their own egos.
"I will engage here because it might work" is really "This site might work now that I am going to engage."
@HTHR I think it more has to do with mastodon's word spreading, paired with people becoming fed up with birdsite. People just don't know about it buy they're expressing hope. That's my view.
@HTHR Oh yeah, like straight up I remember so many takes of "this won't last another month" at the begining, even from people who were hoping Mastodon would succeed. And yet it's already lasted a year. But of course, I think part of that mindset is this the idea that it has to either replace Twitter entirely or die. When that's not really the case at all. And I wonder if that's out of perceiving Mastodon like a corporate competitor instead of a non-corporate alternative.
