if you're bored, you can invent a new head in your head. that head may then think of a fun activity to cure your boredom

Because the Fediverse uses chronological timelines, and because it has a worldwide audience, it is totally fine to boost your own post later so it can reach people in different time zones.

There's no algorithm deciding what people see in their main Fediverse timeline, so they just see whatever happens to be there when they are online.

I wonder if today will be when I finally unlock the Construction Bots in Factorio?

@eyesack Yes, I procrastinated watching the end of Steven Universe for a while for exactly this reason.

@victoria That much is enough that there can exist things that cannot be expressed. That by itself doesn't say whether or not the brain is one of the things that can be expressed. (Which does seem obvious, but *why* does it seem obvious?) It seems like maybe, if it were simple enough that it could be expressed, it wouldn't have been complex enough to make the language to do the expressing. That was the part that felt a little more Gödel-y.

Tfw you wonder if Gödel's Incompleteness Theorem might be a useful metaphor for wondering whether Identity (in the "person having a self" sense) is even a thing that *can* be accurately and precisely communicated in word form.

@trysdyn I love all those little "broken" scripties we make, that rely on way too many insufficiently rigorously proven assumptions, for "this is good enough for now. we don't need to check for that because it's unlikely, and if it does happen, we can fix it later. but this gets us *something* that we can at least use for now."

Obviously, that's not so great when something big does that, that lots of people use.

But for personal stuff, where the one affected by it is also the one who will be able to fix it, it can at least allow it to *exist.* If it *exists* it can be fixed. If we spend half the day reading documentation, each page or even paragraph of which is that much more risk we'll suddenly want to stop and do something else entirely, just to make sure we're doing *everything* "the right way," then we've got nothing at all.

Sysadmin tip: If you manage an ipv4 /24 and can't figure out a naming scheme, Pokemon Gold/Silver's full national dex is 251 pokemon. Throwing in Missingno, Oak, Elm, Jesse and James makes 256.

Figuring out how to get "Nidoran♀" into DNS and /etc/hosts without an explosion is an exercise left to the implementer.

packer storage? you mean the junk drawer?

Back on my SF alien bullshit again

@rabbit "bipedal frame type #5"?

@minervissa idk that show but this phrase reminded me of wolf fang fist and how in dbz they turn yamcha into a joke, but in the beginning when he first met goku, he was the first person in the whole franchise shown using a ki technique, and that's pretty badass. They shoulda let him still be cool later.

realizing that adhd brain literally just means you have to fight scope creep in every single aspect of your life

@jessmahler I loved the book Many Waters! I haven't seen anyone mention it in ages!

I also didn't know or had forgotten that there was a movie of A Wrinkle in Time. I'm... not sure how to feel about that just yet. But I also probably need to reread it since I forget most of what happened in it. (I really loved reading it! But it was so long ago...)

@minervissa oh neat, is that the one you gotta build outta the other ones?

If you're an author, you either live long enough to describe your surroundings, or die a log.

unsolicited (but hopefully not unwelcome) attempt at words of encouragement, not sure if useful

@vantablack Imma go out on a limb here and say I kinda think a lot of people here have probably had similar moments of realization, about themselves. I am admittedly new, but from what I've seen so far, I would be quite surprised if anyone here would "suddenly hate you" for this.

A big realization like this is a lot to take in all at once. But parts of it can feel very freeing. Like when you start finding some situations, where you *don't* need to deal with NT (neurotypical) bs, or expend the energy bothering to attempt to adhere to their nonsensical standards.

@minervissa The way I heard it, it's not that she doesn't like them, so much as she demands we avoid them (except when we're having them specifically because they are prohibited) in honor of that one specific time when she had them that was very significant.

But using her name in a story, and specifically using it *not* for the character approximately corresponding to her? That sounds hilarious! She would probably find it Very Amusing.

Don't make me pull out my infalliability! 🤪
