Suggestion: Tag your posts for local meetups and things with your airport code.
Example: Toronto is #YYZ, and Vancouver is #YVR. Then you can search your local airport code to find local people.

@Canageek It's not a bad idea, although I do spend an awful lot of time flying between #ISP or #JFK and #BWI, and right now I'm with my girlfriend near #JAC

@filkerdave Oh yeah, but it still works better then names, since there can be multiple ways of spelling them. Also I'm technically in Burnaby, but I could count that as part of Vancouver, etc.

@waweic Also that uses far more characters. Plus you have collisions: London, Ontario, London England. Cambridge, Ontario, Cambridge, England, etc.

@waweic Learned that one the hard way in the early days of twitter. Tried an ongoing search for McMaster, the university I was going to. Gave up as I got mostly McMaster-Carr and Lois McMaster Bujold
