Question: If I want to start watching Start Trek: TNG, where do I start? I hear Season One is skipable.
(Why TNG? Series after it are either too dark or to "Yay, Sisko is willing to commit war crimes!")
@Canageek Season 1 is entirely skippable.
@Canageek Season 3. It's still figuring out itself but you can see why people love the show. Season 1 tries better to be Future People but can't pull it off. Season 2 is more successful but not there yet and has worse flops. But the show really lets you dip on anywhere so if you catch an episode on tv go ahead, it'll make sense at least.
@Canageek if you're interested in speedrun strats there's this list:

@starkatt Cool idea, but no, just wanting to start after it got less...awkward.
@Canageek Definitely watch "Encounter at Farpoint" at the very least. It's both really good and it's the first episode, so it's the obvious starting point. My list after that for a new watcher: "Where No One Has Gone Before", "The Last Outpost", "The Battle", "Hide and Q", "The Big Goodbye", "Datalore", "11001001", "Home Soil" "Heart of Glory", "The Aresenal of Freedom", "We'll Always Have Paris", and "The Neutral Zone". Those are the best IMO.
@Canageek As an aside, as someone who dislikes DS9 for similar reasons as you I actually like Voyager much better than TNG. Season 6's "Muse" and Season 7's "The Void" strike a really bright and optimistic note, warming my heart and lifting my spirits more than any episode of TNG does.
@Canageek those people are perpetuating unisex skirt uniform erasure.
@Canageek Skip Code of Honor (s1e4) its garbage.
@Canageek Season 1 is interesting just from a historical perspective, as there were behind-the-scenes reasons for why it wasn't very good (I recommend the documentary Chaos on the Bridge which goes into it).
But if you're only interested in when it gets good, probably start at season 3.
