I don't know everything about digital security, but I'm pretty sure that not even installing SSH capabilities on my home server makes it infinitely more secure than anything with remote connection? Is that true?

@Alamantus If you don't need SSH it's definitely more secure to not have it installed, though not really more secure than simply not having it running.

I'm guessing your server is behind a NAT if it's on your home network. If you simply don't forward port 22 from your router to your server, that's also a decent option (and the default). That will let you connect to your server via SSH while you are on the home network, but not from the outside internet.

@robby That's a handy tip! I've had to hook up a monitor and keyboard to the server to use it, but I don't have to use it often so it's kind of a waste of a monitor
