hi friends, im looking for a book to read, and decided i might as well ask mastodon. only requirement is that it be fiction (i would prefer something shorter since the last book i read was a tome, but im willing to make exceptions) i generally enjoy classical literature and scifi so something along those lines would be appreciated.

boosts appreciated :)

@0x3F

short: C.S. Lewis, The Screwtape Letters

Wonderful: Umberto Eco, The Name of the Rose

@Shamar any specific translation of The Name of Rose you'd recommend?

@0x3F
nope, I read it in Italian, sorry...
It's not poetry however, I think any translation from a well known publisher would do.

Just, don't stop too early: it's one of those book with a slow start, but it really get fantastic as it go.
If you like Arthur Conan Doyle's books, you'll be sad when it will approach the end...
At least I remember it was so for me, years ago... I was scared to finish it, I remember I was thinking "what other book I will be able to enjoy after this?"
A masterpiece!

@0x3F wholeheartedly recommend Time is the Simplest Thing, if you haven't read it yet. Excellent short SF.

Any of Heinlein's stuff would probably fit too, Stranger in a Strange Land or The moon is a harsh mistress are both great reads.

Also slightly less SF (but still belongs to that genre!) and much more politically charged, Cat's Cradle, by Kurt Vonnegut, is a must read.

@Jenkar
thanks! I'll look into these. :)

I'm a huge Vonnegut fan as well :)

@0x3F if you haven't sunk your teeth into American Gods yet, I highly recommend it!

@0x3F the word for world is forest by ursula le guin. Short. Fantastic
